Course Overview
The TASER Instructor Certification Course is designed to provide the instructional techniques and practical training necessary to reasonably, safely, and effectively train and certify operators in the use of TASER energy weapons. Through a structured blend of eLearning, comprehensive hands-on exercises, immersive VR modules, and real-world scenarios, this course equips participants with the tools to teach for successful outcomes.
Students will gain a strong foundation in instructor development, focusing on how to deliver training in TASER energy weapon mechanics, deployment tactics, and troubleshooting. The course emphasizes critical safety protocols, de-escalation strategies, and legal considerations surrounding the use of force, preparing students to teach and certify operators according to established certification standards. Instruction includes both single probe and angled TASER energy weapon platforms. In addition, participants will learn how to leverage Axon VR to enhance realism, expand training options, and engage students in safe yet dynamic environments.

TEEX High-Risk Vehicle Stops

This course prepares participants to be able to conduct high-risk vehicle stops using appropriate strategies and tactics for a variety of scenarios in challenging terrain and low-light conditions. As part of completing the course, participants will conduct application-based scenarios as a single officer, officer pair, and as part of an officer team.

This course is offered under the Keeping Texas Prepared – LAW Extension course suite and meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements Traffic Stops Course #3404.

Sex Offender Registry and the Secure Site

The Sex Offender Registration and the Secure Site course will provide students with information regarding Texas Code of Criminal Procedure (TX CCP), Chapter 62 Sex Offender Registration laws, covering the responsibilities of the various criminal justice agencies involved as well as the registrants’ responsibilities. Students will be able to assess an individual’s criminal history along with court documents to determine a requirement, if any, to register as a sex offender in Texas. Students will be able to explain various requirements a registrant must follow to be in compliance with TX CCP Chapter 62. The students will be able to choose the appropriate forms and supporting documents, if applicable, for the various sex offender registration tasks. Students will be able to identify the proper way to update registrants’ information on the online registry. The students will be able to compare the various reports available to assist with registration tasks as well as for investigational purposes. The students will be able to distinguish the different navigation links on the online registry to access important areas and helpful information.

Basic Instructor Course

This course is designed to meet the legislative mandate established by TCOLE Rule 221.27, in
accordance with Chapter 1701 of the Texas Occupations Code. It provides the basic concepts of
instruction and to increase the quality of professional law enforcement training. The Basic
Instructor Course introduces knowledge and resources in adult learning theory, lesson plan
development, classroom management, training standards, and instructor liability. Learners will
engage in discussions and hands-on activities focused on developing and delivering training
aligned with instructional best practices. By the end of the course, learners must demonstrate
their ability to create a complete lesson plan and facilitate a clear and object-driven teaching
exercise.

Intermediate Spanish for Peace Officers

Intermediate Spanish for Peace Officers is designed to satisfy requirements for Intermediate
Peace Officer Proficiency Certification under Commission rules 221.1 and 221.3. This course
covers common Spanish words and phrases for signaling danger, descriptions, and arrests.

Learners will demonstrate proficiency in their ability to use Spanish words and phrases in various traffic-related situations.
