Basic Instructor Certification

This 40-hour program covers teaching-learning dynamics, lesson planning, instructional methods, and evaluation techniques. Successful completion qualifies you for a TCOLE Instructor Proficiency certificate application. Bring your note-taking materials, laptop, and a flash drive. ALERRT Level 1

This dynamic course of instruction is designed to prepare the first responder to isolate, distract, and neutralize an active shooter. This course will cover shooting and moving, threshold evaluation, concepts and principles of team movement, setting up for and room entry techniques, approach and breaching the crisis site, secondary responder tactics, improvised explosive devices, and post engagement priorities of work. The course will culminate with dynamic force‑on‑force scenarios. Required Equipment: Good attitude, open mind, pen and paper, duty gear, body armor, groin protection, and appropriate clothing for "force-on-force" training (i.e. long sleeve shirt, gloves, etc.) Head, eye, and throat protection will be provided by ALERRT

Crime Scene Investigation (Intermediate)

Proper crime scene investigation, evidence collection, and documentation are key components to any criminal investigation. This course provides participants with information, techniques, and methods for conducting investigations ranging from general crime scene investigations to death investigations. Course instruction is through lecture and case review with emphasis on practical application. This course meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements Intermediate Crime Scene Course #2106.

TCIC/TLETS Full Access

This course is for operators who perform all TCIC/NCIC functions, including inquiry, entry, modification, clearing, canceling, and III functions. It also covers navigation of the databases that are connected to the TLETS system such as administrative messages, driver license, vehicle registration, and instructions regarding proper procedures for broadcasting in the state and nationwide. This course requires the TCIC/TLETS Operation Manual Parts 1 - 3. Operators must receive this training within the first six months of assignment or employment, regardless of whether these duties are performed on a full-time or part-time basis. In order to comply with federal requirements, operators must recertify within two years of certification or most recent recertification date.

TCIC/TLETS Less-Than Full Access

This course is for operators who perform TCIC/NCIC functions at any level lower than full access. Generally, this pertains to inquiry only. TCIC/TLETS Mobile Access

This course is for operators who perform TCIC/NCIC functions at any level lower than full access. Generally, this pertains to inquiry only, including mobile data terminal (MDT) or laptop computer operators. It also covers information about driver license and vehicle registration. This course requires the TCIC/TLETS Operation Manual Part 1. Operators must receive this training within the first six months of assignment or employment, regardless of whether these duties are performed on a full-time or part-time basis. Use of Force (Non-Intermediate)

There is no greater exposure to criminal and civil liability than in the area of the Use of Force, an essential and necessary task that all officers face. In many cases, law enforcement trainers are well-versed in the skills related to use of force or the “how to” deploy force. However, many officers and trainers are not well-versed in the “when to” use force beyond the basic tenets of cases like Graham v. Connor. This course provides attendees with an understanding of the standards of Use of Force and how to arrive at the totality of the circumstances. Attendees will be provided with a framework to bring back to their agency so that officers are empowered through training to make the best decisions on when force may be used, and which force option is proper under the circumstances the officer is faced with. Radar

Students will better understand the benefits of speed enforcement, have basic knowledge of RADAR, know proper set-up, testing, and operation of the radar, and Know case laws related to the requirements for RADAR training, testing, and operation by officers. Upon completing this program, officers will receive six (6) hours of TCOLE credit. **Must bring a vehicle with working radar (front and rear antennas) and two tuning forks.**

Advanced Instructor Course

The TCOLE Advanced Instructor Certification Course is designed to advance instructor knowledge and understanding of student motivations and generational values as well as advancing the development of instructor skills in preparation, presentation, and overall competency in training. This course has been developed by a committee of subject matter experts and delivered for presentation by TCOLE for certification as an Advanced Instructor as provided by TCOLE Rule §221.28. Student Pre-Requisites: Students must be a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement certified instructors and have held their Basic Instructor Proficiency Certification for 3 years. Required class material: Students are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to bring a laptop to class. Your laptop must have a Microsoft Word-compatible word processor (or Mac) and presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint, Keynote, Prezi, etc.). Access to a computer is required to complete this course since the student will be creating lesson plans and performing research for student presentations.

Taser 10 Operator

The Operator course for the Taser 10 is an 8-hour online course through AXON Academy. It teaches users how to safely and effectively use the electronic control device and is designed to equip them with the knowledge to use the Taser 10 in a defensible manner. The online course must be taken before attending the in-person section of the class. The in-person section of the class will cover drills, live fire demonstrations, and scenario methods. The training teaches users how to use the Taser as a non-lethal self-defense tool.
